The aim of the Particulate stack emissions proficiency testing scheme is to assess performance for implementing EN 13284-1 or similar methods for measurement of particulate matter / dust from stationary source emissions. Any laboratories that undertake such measurements are eligible to take part.
This involves the weighing of foil shims and simulated particulate test probe wash, that are sent to participants to analyse at their own laboratories.
Foil shims and simulated probe washing solutions are provided with known masses traceable to national standards. Performance is assessed by comparison of participant results against these assigned values using z-scores. The standard deviation for proficiency testing is set from consideration of previous round results and with due consideration to relevant directives and standards.
